The Fleet Management Department serves as the central administrator for 726 UNC-owned vehicles, 171 leased vehicles, and 765 pieces of grounds equipment. This department has eight employees and the Fleet Manager, who manages two service stations which provide fuel, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and pooled vehicle resources to Facilities Services and the campus customers. In addition, administrative responsibilities include: collecting and entering NC Motor Fleet vehicle logs into a state-wide system which is a source for monthly billing; fleet policy development; implementation of strategic initiatives; operating central equipment and vehicle pools; responding to the state Department of Administration on UNC citizen vehicle complaints; managing the state required vehicle exemption process; recommendations and assistance for replacement and purchasing of campus vehicles and equipment; and customer billing for all fleet related vehicles.

The UNC Service Station is located at 109 Airport Drive just off MLK Blvd. behind the Giles Horney Building, At the Service Station we provide service and repairs to campus vehicles including PM oil changes, NC State Emissions Inspections, advanced engine and computer controlled systems, cooling systems, brakes, tires, etc. We work by appointments but also make room in our schedule for emergency repairs and will make quick repairs without an appointment while you wait such as lights, batteries, and windshield wiper blades. At our fueling site we have E85 fuel and regular gasoline, which can be accessed 24 hours a day. We have a self-service car wash where employees can come and wash their vehicles and we provide glass cleaner, rags and vacuum cleaners.
