The objective of this programming and site feasibility study is to evaluate the remaining two sites within the Science Complex and to develop a program for new construction that will house the department of Applied Physical Sciences and the Institute for Convergent Sciences, which is dedicated to providing technology transfer through promoting cross- disciplinary research as well as incubator space for UNC faculty affiliated startups. The study will include assessing the programmatic needs of other Natural Sciences departments within the College of Arts & Sciences to align opportunities for creating research and academic spaces not currently found on campus. Guided by the 2006 Campus Master Plan, the feasibility study will test site capacity and options to redevelop the Naval Armory site and adjacent surface parking lot for this project.
The University may retain the selected designer through full design and construction services at its option. The projected project budget is estimated at $175 million. The total feasibility study is estimated at $250,000.
