Operations is responsible for the maintenance, operations, cleaning and repairs for over 18 million square feet of the University’s academic buildings, research facilities, and residence halls, and the maintenance, design and planning for grounds and forest across more than 800 acres of main campus and 4,200 total acres throughout Orange County. To ensure Grounds Services crews are ready for winter weather, teams participate in an annual “Snow Roadeo,” a hands-on training event where staff can practice essential techniques for snow clearing and adverse weather response.
Several Facilities Operations units will move into a new Business Operations unit, and Energy Services will move from Campus Enterprises to Facilities Services.
More than 100 plants, including 30 varieties of native plants representing North Carolina’s mountain, piedmont and coastal areas, were planted in the beds around the Old Well.
