  • The ECM program received the 2011 Association of Energy Engineers state award for project of the year.
  • Kenan Residence Hall received the 2011 EPA Energy Star National Building award for the biggest enery reduction in a residence hall.
  • Todd Freeman received the 2011 Chancellor’s Award
  • Grounds Services received the Green Star Award from the Professional Grounds Management Society, a national recognition for excellence in grounds maintenance.
  • Housekeeping Services was named winner of the national (OS1) Cleaning Industry Innovation Award.
  • Greg Kopsch, Carolina North Forest Manager, and Jerry Zachary, Academic Affairs Lead Technician from Shop 110, Refrigeration, were among the six University employees selected by Chancellor Holden Thorp for the prestigious 2011 Chancellor’s Award. As Chancellor’s Award winners, they automatically become nominees for the Governor’s Awards for Excellence, the highest honor a state employee can receive.
  • Helen M. Marsh from Housekeeping Services, and Tom Sudderth, from the Grounds Services Department, were selected by the chancellor to receive 2011 C. Knox Massey Distinguished Service Awards, one of the most coveted distinctions bestowed upon faculty and staff.
  • UNC earned a silver rating in the national sustainability assessment, AASHE STARS – the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System. The assessment was developed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education and is the first comprehensive, objective and transparent assessment of campus-wide sustainability. It enables campuses to measure their current sustainability initiatives and to track progress over time.
