Facilities Services is conducting emergency steam tunnel repairs that will force the closure of a segment of Skipper Bowles Drive to through traffic beginning Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, through Jan. 6, 2017. As a result, access to parking areas along Skipper Bowles Drive will be maintained through designated routes (see map below). Please drive slowly with caution, follow detour signs, and stay alert to temporary bus stop and crosswalk locations throughout this project.
Chapel Hill Transit has re-routed the CM, N, U, and RU routes. Visit Chapel Hill Transit’s website for route information.
Bus stops serving Skipper Bowles Drive will be temporarily relocated during construction. Chapel Hill Transit will make every attempt to maintain schedules, but riders should plan for delays due to re-routing. Download a map of Detour routes.
Point-to-Point Express route will alter its route slightly to serve the northbound Skipper Bowles stop north of Blythe Drive before resuming its normal route. A map showing this detour can be found on the following link. Download a map of P2P routes.
Pedestrians should be alert to traffic changes and follow signage along Skipper Bowles Drive designating pedestrian re-routes.
