Herb RichmondFollowing an extensive search, we are pleased to announce that Cotanus “Herb” Richmond is the new director of Housekeeping Services, effective Feb. 6.

Richmond, a native North Carolinian, has served as the interim director of the Housekeeping Services department since May 2016. He brings the experience and institutional knowledge gained from 16 years of service with the University, 12 of which have been with Housekeeping Services, where he has served as Zone Manager, Housekeeping Training Assistant and Training Director. Prior to working at the University, he held a management position in the retail industry, worked in the housekeeping division at Duke University, and attended UNC-Chapel Hill from 1985 through 1989.

In his new role, Herb will continue to provide leadership and direction to more than 400 employees, who service approximately 245 buildings on campus, and he is committed to fostering a culture of civility and respect within the diverse workforce of Housekeeping Services.

Darius Dixon, executive director of Facilities Operations, wishes to thank the search committee and others in the campus community who were involved in the selection process, and to give special thanks to committee chair Jerry Guerrier, assistant director for planning and project management for Facilities Services, for the time and effort he dedicated to successfully filling this position.
