Snow Removal Priority Map

Facilities Services crews have pretreated and brined primary campus roads, walkways and building entrances, and University officials will be closely monitoring campus conditions throughout the weekend. In the event of adverse weather, Grounds, Housekeeping and Building Services crews will be coordinating efforts to clear campus routes as soon as possible; snow clearing priorities may be adjusted based on planned campus events, weather conditions or other circumstances.

Tuesday, Dec. 11

UPDATE 9:25 a.m.: As the temperature rises, snow is beginning to slide from rooftops. Exercise caution and remain alert if walking on campus, particularly when alongside or entering/exiting buildings.


The University will move to Condition 1 at 11:30 a.m. All priority/ADA building entrances and walkways on campus have now been cleared. Visit the Snow Removal Priority Map for locations and plan routes across campus accordingly.

Monday, Dec. 10

UPDATE 5:46 p.m.: The University will remain in Condition 2 until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11. At 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the University will move to Condition 1. Condition 1 will expire at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. For more information visit alertcarolina.unc.edu.


UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: Crews have now cleared 60% of priority/ADA building entrances on campus. Pedestrians should exercise caution and use cleared walkways when possible. Snow may begin sliding off rooftops so remain alert when walking near or entering/exiting campus buildings.


Staff are working across campus to clear priority/ADA entrances and walkways and to apply sand and salt to roads and sidewalks. Areas that were previously cleared have seen additional accumulation, so pedestrians should use caution if traveling on campus.

Sunday, Dec. 9

UPDATE 4:54 p.m.: The University will remain in Condition 2 until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10. A decision regarding the operating status for Tuesday, Dec. 11 will be communicated no later than 7 p.m. on Monday. For more information visit alertcarolina.unc.edu.


UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: Second and third shift crews will work this evening to continue clearing priority/ADA building entrances and walkways per the Snow Removal Priority Map.


UPDATE 3 p.m.: Grounds Services crews are responding to reports of downed trees on campus. Manning and Hibbard drives have been cleared and reopened to through traffic. Country Club Road, between Gimghoul and South roads, and Finley Golf Course Road are still blocked at this time.


Grounds crews are on campus and are plowing main roads. Housekeeping Services teams are working to clear snow from primary entrances and walkways at residence halls and dining halls.

Saturday, Dec. 8

The University will move to Condition 2 at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9 and stay in Condition 2 until 11:59 p.m. A decision regarding the operating status for Monday, Dec. 10 will be communicated no later than 7 p.m. on Sunday. For more information visit alertcarolina.unc.edu.
