Heads up!
UNC’s student Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) will be holding a training exercise in the Forest on the afternoon of March 5, 2020 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., in the area around the west end of the Horace Williams runway – near the North Haven connector trail, along the lower section of the Forest Road called ‘The Vine’ and along the Wormhole Spur at waypoints 18 and 19. 20-25 participants will be running drills dressed in camouflage fatigues. They will be using various props in these simulated missions, including inert training rifles. UNC and Forest Management have approved this event and the NROTC organizers have notified local law enforcement (UNC, Chapel Hill and Carrboro Police) and local schools of this planned activity in case neighbors or Forest visitors are concerned or have questions about what they see.
