Celebrated every September, International Housekeepers Week is dedicated to recognizing the efforts of hardworking custodial staff members. At the University, this is an opportunity to express gratitude for the contributions of the Housekeeping Services staff and all they do across campus. Their hard work and dedication are vital to creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors every day.

This year, Facilities Services housekeepers gathered on Sept. 20 in the Great Hall of the Frank Porter Graham Student Union to celebrate with food, games and giveaways. Staff enjoyed fried chicken and cupcakes, followed by raffle drawings and a lively game of musical chairs.

Herb Richmond, director of Housekeeping Services, and Wendy Halsey, associate vice chancellor of Facilities Services, were present to share their heartfelt appreciation for the housekeepers’ commitment to the Carolina community. Katie Musgrove, chair of the Employee Forum, also read aloud Proclamation 24-01 Concerning International Housekeepers Week, in which the Forum recognizes “the invaluable contribution of Housekeeping Services staff and wishes to extend its appreciation for their continued efforts.”
