Darius Dixon has announced his retirement as the executive director of Facilities Operations, effective Jan 1. Dixon joined the University in 2012 as the director of Housekeeping Services. Named executive director of Facilities Operations in 2016, Dixon has provided oversight of the teams that are responsible for the maintenance, operations, cleaning and repairs for over 18 million square feet of the University’s academic buildings, research facilities and residence halls, and the maintenance and planning for grounds and forest across more than 800 acres of main campus and 4,200 total acres throughout Orange County.
Moving forward, an organizational change will be implemented within Facilities Services, and several Operations units will move into a new Business Operations unit. This will include Fleet Services, Materials and Logistics, Administrative Services and Customer Service. This new unit will also support financial and capital planning, metrics development, and policy governance, and will administer the AiM facilities management system. Facilities Operations will continue to provide oversight of the Building Services, Grounds Services and Housekeeping Services units.
Facilities Services is currently recruiting for an executive director of Facilities Business Operations and an executive director of Facilities Operations to lead these two units.
Additionally, Energy Services will move from Campus Enterprises to Facilities Services, effective Jan. 1. This move will provide opportunities for operational efficiencies and improved coordination across teams. Executive Director of Energy Services Tony Millette will report to Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Services Wendy Halsey. Campus customers should continue to contact Energy Services directly for any utility questions or concerns.
