  • Public access is by appointment only with approval from UNC-Chapel Hill project manager.
  • Plan Room hours of operation for University staff: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Monday – Friday)
  • If you need staff assistance, please request an appointment by completing the “Questions/Comments” form.
  • The Plan Room is closed on University holidays

Location

  • The Plan Room is located in Room 214, near the center of the second floor of the Giles F. Horney Building
  • We are 1.4 miles north of Franklin Street and the historic UNC-Chapel Hill campus.
  • Please note that the Horney Building is on the northwest corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (Historic Airport Road) and Airport Drive and is accessed from Airport Drive.
  • For driving directions, please see Google Maps.
  • Visitor parking is available in front of the Horney Building and in the commuter parking lot connected to the Horney Building driveway.

Plan Room Archive

  • Collect building documentation reflecting existing conditions including drawings and specifications
  • Care for permanent records of construction in University-owned or leased buildings
  • Assist users in retrieving building information as needed

Space Management

  • Assign Building Identifiers: Building ID and Street Address
  • Track official names of structures and places
  • Preserve plans for all structures, including electronic floor plans
  • Provide space usage information for University owned and leased buildings
  • The Plan Room is designed to be a self-serve library and archive.
  • Our staff is happy to help you find the information you need and show you how to access that information.
  • Outside designers and contractors need UNC-Chapel Hill project manager’s permission to make copies.
  • All copies must be logged and associated with a UNC-Chapel Hill Project ID.
  • The Plan Room does not make copies of electronic files for researchers. Researchers may bring in their own USB drive and use the search station to save electronic files to that drive.
