If you are interested in contributing your time and efforts to help with stewardship efforts and trail maintenance in the Forest, we’d appreciate hearing from you!

We are looking for help in the following areas:

  • Trail Monitors: report on trail conditions, areas in need of attention and gather data (broken planks, snagged trees, GPS locations, etc.)
  • Trail Maintenance Crew Leaders and Members: help maintain and improve the trail loops and spurs (raking, deberming, pruning, etc.)
  • Feature Technicians: help maintain the built structures throughout the Forest (kiosks, footbridges, exercise stations, etc.)
  • Forest Stewardship: help with ecosystem restoration (invasive plant control, native plantings, stream cleanups, etc.)

All these tasks have a physical activity component. Interested volunteers can expect to work outside year-round in the Forest environment. We ask that volunteers come dressed appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.

If you are looking for opportunities to bring your group out to the Forest to contribute, we would appreciate hearing from you as well. We have some stewardship projects that are ideal for larger work parties and can scale the project according to group size.

If you are interested, please email forestmanager@fac.unc.edu. Our response will include an information sheet for you to provide us with some basic information about yourself and your availability. Then we’ll meet up and get to work!
