Hanes Art Center Project Work Zone and Pedestrian Detours

A project to replace the roof of the Hanes Art Center will begin May 14, 2018, and is expected to be completed by Aug. 12, 2018. The project will include the replacement of the original 26,000 square foot roof, repairs to the building envelope, and the installation of a permanent fall protection system.

This project was originally scheduled to begin fall 2017, pending completion of the adjacent Porthole Alley project. Due to pedestrian egress and site access constraints, the two projects cannot be underway concurrently. Unforeseen conditions and weather delays have caused the Porthole Alley project to run significantly behind schedule, preventing the start of Hanes Art Center construction until this time.

The roof replacement project will require the closure of a portion of the Swain Parking Lot and walkways along the perimeter of the building. Pedestrians should remain alert to construction activities in the area and follow designated pedestrian detours.

NG1 permit parking will continue to be available in the Swain lot throughout this project. Overflow parking  for NG1 permit holders will be available in the Morehead (N2 Zone) and Porthole Alley (N2 Zone) parking lots.
