Stage Two Work Zones and Pedestrian Routes

The third and final phase of the Pit Sidewalk Improvements project begins Monday, May 14, 2018, and is expected to be completed Aug. 17, 2018.

The Pit Sidewalk Improvements project includes the repair and renovation of paving and infrastructure in and around the Pit. The project has been implemented in phases over the last several summers to reduce the impact on students and activities in this area of campus. The final phase will be completed in three stages and will be restricted to the area between Lenoir, Student Stores, the Student Union and Davis Library.

  • Stage 1a: May 14, 2018 – June 23, 2018
  • Stage 1b: June 4, 2018 – July 12, 2018
  • Stage 2a: June 18, 2018 – July 12, 2018
  • Stage 2b: June 18, 2018 – Aug. 3, 2018
  • Stage 3a: July 14, 2018 – Aug. 8, 2018
  • Stage 3b: July 12, 2018 – Aug. 12, 2018

Phase three improvements will include the replacement of brick pavers, upgrades to stormwater management and new landscaping. New shade trees will be planted outside the Student Union within a modular soil system that will allow for the harvest of rainwater and will improve stormwater runoff. The current ADA access ramp to the Pit will be removed and replaced with a longer sloping sidewalk. The central interior of the Pit is not included in the scope of this project but will remain closed to access and activities over the summer to accommodate surrounding construction.

Pedestrian access through this area of campus will be maintained throughout the project. Pedestrians should remain alert to construction activity and follow signage indicating pedestrian routes.
