Construction of the Kenan-Flagler Business School’s new Steven D. Bell Hall will begin Thursday, March 23 and is expected to be completed in 2025. Normal project work hours will be Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The new building will allow the Business School to admit 50% more students to its Undergraduate Business Program and modernize the learning environment for students in all of its top-ranked Undergraduate Business, Master of Accounting, MBA and Ph.D. programs. The building will also provide more spaces for events, conferences and case competitions and will also include a 50-seat outdoor tiered teaching space and a four-story interior atrium. The building is designed with a current target of LEED Platinum for sustainability.

The project will require the closure of a portion of Kenan Center Drive for 18-24 months. School of Business (BD) and Weeknight Parking permit holders should access the School of Business Parking Deck from the Skipper Bowles Parking Lot. Vehicular access to the McColl Building, the Kenan Center and the Kenan Center Visitor Parking Lot will be maintained via Mason Farm Road.

The project will also require the closure of a single lane on William Blythe Drive through March 2024. Two-way traffic will be maintained through automatic signals, and drivers should expect possible delays when traveling through this area.

Pedestrians should follow designated detours and bypass the closed portion of Kenan Center Drive using the pedestrian bridge or the crosswalk at Skipper Bowles Drive. Pedestrians should remain alert to construction activity in the area, changes in vehicular traffic patterns and construction vehicles entering and exiting the work zone.
