Snow Removal Priority Maps

Facilities Services crews have pre-treated and brined primary campus roads, walkways and building entrances, and University officials will be closely monitoring campus conditions. In the event of adverse weather, Grounds, Housekeeping and Building Services crews will be coordinating efforts to clear campus routes as soon as possible; snow clearing priorities may be adjusted based on planned campus events, weather conditions or other circumstances.

Snow Removal and Service Updates

Friday, Jan. 19

The University will move to Condition 1 at noon today. Normal operations will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Classes will operate on a regular schedule beginning at noon. Individual faculty may use discretion to adjust class schedules and arrange make-up work for students unable to report to class due to the weather event. Thursday, Jan. 18

UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: The University will remain in Condition 2 until noon on Friday, Jan. 19. Conditions will be re-evaluated tomorrow morning and an update regarding campus operations for the remainder of Friday will be communicated to the campus by 9 a.m.


UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: Crews have cleared 87% of primary/ADA building entrances and priority parking lots have been plowed and salted. Please use cleared pathways only and remain alert to falling snow.


UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: As the temperature rises, snow is beginning to fall from rooftops and trees. Please be cautious if walking on campus, particularly when alongside or entering/exiting buildings.


The University is currently operating under Condition 2. Facilities crews are working across campus to clear primary walkways and entrances per the Snow Removal Priority Map.

Wednesday, Jan. 17

UPDATE 10:45 p.m.: The University will remain in Condition 2 until 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19. Conditions will be re-evaluated tomorrow and an update regarding campus operations for the remainder of Friday will be communicated to the campus by 8 p.m. Thursday night. UPDATE 6:00 p.m.: Second and third shift crews have arrived on campus and are working this evening to treat and clear roads, sidewalks and primary/ADA entrances per the Snow Removal Priority Map.


Crews are on campus working to re-treat and clear high priority entrances and walkways where needed. Extended snow removal efforts will begin once accumulation has slowed.

The University will remain in Condition 2 (suspended operations) until noon on Thursday, Jan. 18. Classes are cancelled and all laboratories are closed. All non-mandatory operations are suspended; only mandatory employees must report to or remain at work. Conditions will be re-evaluated tomorrow and an update regarding campus operations for the remainder of Thursday will be communicated to the campus by 10 a.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 16

The University will move to Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) of its adverse weather plan at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and remain at Condition 1 until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17. At 6 a.m., the University will move to Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) until 5 p.m. Conditions will be re-evaluated tomorrow and an update regarding campus operations for the second and third shift for Wednesday, Jan. 17 will be communicated to the campus by 3 p.m. For more information visit alertcarolina.unc.edu.
