The third and final phase of the Pit Sidewalk Improvements project, originally expected to be completed before the start of the fall semester, has been extended through Oct. 15, 2018, due to unforeseen conditions and weather delays.
Remaining paver work will be completed in sections to reduce the impact on activities in the area and the Pit-side entrances to Lenoir will remain accessible throughout the remainder of the project. Pedestrians should remain alert to construction activity and follow signage indicating pedestrian routes.
The Pit Sidewalk Improvements project includes the repair and renovation of paving and infrastructure in and around the Pit. The project has been implemented in phases over the last three summers, with the final phase restricted to the area between Lenoir, Student Stores, the Student Union and Davis Library.
Phase three improvements include the replacement of brick pavers, upgrades to stormwater management and new landscaping. The previous ADA access ramp to the Pit has been removed and replaced with a longer sloping sidewalk. New shade trees will be planted outside the entrance to the Student Union over winter break. The central interior of the Pit was not included in the scope of this project.
